ASTM F899 420A is a martensitic chromium stainless steel that is resistant to corrosion by water and steam. This material must be used in a hardened and low-temperature tempered condition, and is best suited for applications requiring a bright, polished surface. Its corrosion resistance is reduced when in a high-temperature tempered or annealed condition. Due to its chromium content, this alloy exhibits good corrosion resistance in moderately aggressive, non-chloride-containing media (such as soaps, solvents, and organic acids). This steel also resists oxidation in oxidizing atmospheres up to 600°C.
